The art class you never knew you needed.
hi, I’m Olivia! your Scrappy Art School teacher.
SCRAPPY ART SCHOOL is a 3-week online art class with a pop culture twist.
TERM 1: 12TH - 31ST MAY 2026
In Scrappy Art School, you'll discover the playfulness your practice has been missing.
Through a series of live classes, creative co-working, and a syllabus built from both my personal experience and my favourite artists' techniques, I’ll challenge you to loosen up, generate ideas, create a lot of work and set your artist heart on fire again.
And the “pop culture” part? You'll have to keep scrolling…
hey, is this you?
I FEEL GUILTY BECAUSE I CALL MYSELF AN ‘ARTIST’ BUT I'VE NOT MADE ANYTHING IN MONTHS.
I'M FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I CAN'T COMMIT AND FINISH ANYTHING.
I TRY TO MAKE SOMETHING AND THEN GIVE UP 10 MINUTES LATER BECAUSE THE INSPIRATION JUST ISN'T COMING.
I SECOND-GUESS MY IDEAS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO MAKE ANYTHING BAD.
MY INNER PERFECTIONIST RUNS THE SHOW.
I PROCRASTINATE MAKING ART BECAUSE I JUST FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IS MORE IMPORTANT.
I MISS THE CREATIVITY I HAD WHEN I WAS A KID.
What is Scrappy Art School?
Scrappy Art School is a 3-week online container of classes & creative co-working. It’s all about creating consistency, building accountability, and learning to banish your artistic fight-flight-freeze with the magic of play.
01Live Classes & Creative Coworking
The heart of Scrappy Art School lives in the live classes and creative coworking sessions, which are a mixture of lecture, practical creative exercises (which are useful AND fun!), show & tell and art school study hall. Get inspired, share your ideas and synthesise new ways of working through live contact time.
0214 Day Art Sprint
Together we create 14 pieces of art over 14 days, inspired by this term’s pop culture 'text’. You’ll learn the magic of consistency, making bad things on purpose, and banish your artistic fight-flight-freeze.
03Online Chat & Syllabus
You’ll have a place to connect the classes and community outside of regular class times, with access to a Discord chat group and also syllabus notes from Olivia (and extra reading material!). Get accountability and stay inspired with the extra support.
the magic sauce
Each term, Scrappy Art School uses a different piece of pop culture as our central ‘text’ for projects and classes.
Through exercises, discussions and play, we'll use it as a gateway to a world of inspiration.
So, do you want to know what we've chosen?
2005’s Pride and Prejudice, baby.
Together we’ll notice the little & large details (a hand touch! a boiled potato!) and use them to inspire 14 new pieces of art.
You can make poems, songs, paintings… anything goes. This is an art class for any kind of artist.
Jane Austen not your style? That's ok! But if you're curious and want to try something different…. maybe this is the permission slip you've been waiting for.

The Course Consists of 6 Online Sessions
DATES: Tues 12th - Sun 31st May 2026
1 x Intro Session
2 x Classes
2 x Making Time sessions
1 x Graduation
All session are scheduled for 2 hours max to account for discussion time, but some may be 90 mins in total.
The Intro Session (90 mins) is for introductions, to the course and each other. We’ll check in on what everyone will be making, share more about how the course works, and do a quick Q&A so we all know how to approach the art sprint.
Classes (120 mins) are a mix of inspiration and action. Each class will consist of a lecture and 2 hands-on creative exercises to get you warmed up and ready to make!
Making Time sessions (120 mins) are about accountability and community. We share our work, talk about what we’ve been noticing and then spend some quiet time working on our art. You can drop in and drop out.
Graduation (120 mins) is a celebration of what we’ve learned and an open discussion about next steps in our art practice. It’s a chance to come together, share what we’ve learned, and celebrate our dedication!
Over the 3 weeks of Scrappy Art School, we’ll do a 14-day art sprint, making 14 pieces of art in 14 days, inspired by Pride & Prejudice.
Why? When you create more, you learn more. And you break down that little voice in your head which says, “I’m not good enough!”
Olivia Rafferty
Whether it's writing 100 songs in 100 days, or collaborating on a collection of Craiglist-inspired songs, I am an artist who LOVES a kooky challenge.
But I'm also a creator who has learned about the magic of showing up and trying.
Over the years I've discovered how my practices of keeping notebooks, delving into visual worlds and staying curious has kept my creative spark alive and kicking.
Scrappy Art School is my excuse to create the art class I always wanted, combining what I've learned from songwriting, improv, poetry, and writer-teachers like Lynda Barry, and give artists the tools to create wildly and recommit to their practice.
Oh, and make art about Mr Darcy. Because I think it'll be really funny.

✶ Frequently asked questions ✶
-
I’ve crafted this course for artists of any medium.
That could mean you’re a writer, a poet, a painter, an illustrator, a songwriter, a ceramicist… the list goes on!
All you need to do is choose a medium which you’re able to make something with every day. It might even mean that you choose a new medium — one that you’re curious about.
This course is one big, juicy permission slip to turn up and TRY.
And it doesn’t matter if you suck at it. In fact, it’s encouraged!
-
People who want to create on their own timeline — we will be following. a structure over these two weeks.
People who are too proud or prejudiced to watch and make art about Pride & Prejudice ;)
-
I can’t show the whole film or give you a link to download it but you can access the movie on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and is available for purchase on Google Play for about £2.50.
You watch the movie in your own time, and we do creative exercises based on certain scenes in class. No need to memorise anything but note-taking and mark-making is important as you watch the movie.
I’ll outline “how to watch it” in our first class.
-
The classes and ‘making time’ sessions will be recorded and uploaded the following day, so you can follow along at your own time.
We will also have a class discord so you can chat and share your work there outside of class time.
-
Refunds are available up until 24 hrs before the first workshop date.
Refunds are not offered after the course begins.
-
This course is a commitment you’re making to yourself, so the only person who needs you to do the work is YOU!
The main piece of ‘homework’ (and the MEAT of Scrappy Art School is the 14 day art sprint. You’ll be expected to create 14 pieces of art over the course of 2 weeks (so one thing a day). The good news? IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE GOOD ART. Scrappy Art School is all about the magic of showing up.
We will also be creating additional work in class, quick, messy and easy, to get the juices flowing.
