weirdly, trying works

I made a commitment to start ‘telling my story’ on Instagram after being inspired by a singer-songwriter called Essy Sparrow. A reel of hers came up in my feed where she talked about her ‘year of trying.’

I would like to do my own year of trying. I am going to try and share my story, again and again, for 30 days on Instagram. Just videos. Just different angles of my music, my album and my process. I’ve seen that the people who aren’t afraid to tell their story again and again have the strongest presence. I also just want to practice my own sense of presence: talking to a camera, not filling in my sentences with “like” or “um,” feeling like what I am saying is worth listening to.

I started doing this a couple of days ago, just posted two videos but already I’ve had an introduction to a songwriter I really admire, and I’ve sold two copies of my album on Bandcamp. So something is happening.

Rules for 30 Days of Telling My Story

  1. take a video every day and tell a little story

  2. edit it on your phone, make it less than a minute long

  3. post it and then move on to the next idea
